Koch, Judy

Judy Koch is an artist living in Edmonton, Alberta. She has studied painting, drawing and printmaking at the Faculty of Extension, University of Alberta; Red Deer College (Series); the Banff Centre; and SNAP (the Society of Northern Alberta Print-artists). Over her career she has worked in a variety of media including oil paint, pastel, and mixed media. She has done all forms of printmaking, preferring woodcuts and linocuts. Her work is contained in private collections in Western Canada. Judy has been making art since 1980. Initially, because she worked in a full time career in legal education. Her art activities were part time. After retiring in 2019, She is able to devote full time attention to her art.

This recent series of paintings is about things: old things, rusted and broken things, things outside the antique mall, covered with snow.One can find beauty in the ordinary, if we look for it. She searches for obscure messages written in signs. She wants people to ask, “Why would you paint that?”
